BlackHeart Roost Turkey Sling Review

BlackHeart Roost Turkey Sling Review

Posted by Brandon Rapp on 16th May 2023

Spring turkey season has finally arrived and like most hunters every year you’ve probably taken the time to look over your gear to remember what worked for you last year and possibly more importantly, what gear didn’t work for you.

Spring gobblers don’t hand out a lot of second chances in the turkey woods, and if something you’re using gives away your location or clues the birds into you hunting them, we all know they’ll get as far away from you as fast as they can.

One of the few pieces of gear that most hunters look over, or a lot of the time don’t even use, is a sling for their shotgun.

It understandably could be low on the list of where hunters place importance, but after I spent some time using the new Roost Turkey Sling from BlackHeart gear, you might just want to bump that need up a few spots on your gear list.

Your shotgun is arguably the most important piece of the puzzle for a successful hunt in the spring turkey woods. It’s the preferred method of take when you have that gobbler in range and you’re ready to finish the job.

Hunters will save up to buy the best gun with the best choke and spend hours at the range practicing and patterning that gun to know exactly how it will shoot when the brief moment of opportunity presents itself.

Having a sling should be the immediate second item to research and purchase to complement, and quite honestly enhance your favorite turkey gun.

It takes something that you need and creates a one-two-punch combination for success that a lot of times many hunters wish they thought of before they went into the woods.

Why should you care about using a sling for your shotgun and what’s so great about the Roost Turkey Sling?

1. The rubber backing on the Roost sling will secure your gun easily to your shoulder when walking, calling, or setting up decoys.

It helps you from misplacing your shotgun if you set it down or lean it against a tree.

Knowing your gun is secured to your shoulder helps to create a safer hunting experience for you and others you hunt with.

Securing a loaded shotgun to your shoulder decreases the chances of sliding off of your shoulder and being pointed at something you don’t intend to harm.

For added security, there is a generous handle on the front of the sling where you can loop your thumb through or your entire hand for a better grip.

2. Anyone who has hunted turkeys even once knows that excess movement around these wary birds is an almost guaranteed recipe for failure.

Turkey hunters of all experience levels will also know that these birds can appear or call from out of nowhere.

When a gobbler catches you off guard the last thing you want to be doing is frantically rummaging through your vest or pack to find a diaphragm call to keep the conversation going.

The product engineers at BlackHeart kept these moments in mind and built three strategically placed mesh slots on the front of the Roost sling which might just be my favorite addition to traditional slings.

Sure, any gun sling will carry the gun and secure to it my shoulder, but that addition makes it something I feel will come in handy more than once.

3. Like all of the products I use from BlackHeart, you always notice their solid-built, rugged, and dependable construction.

These are products that you know will stand up in the field and not let you down when you need them the most.

I carry all of my BlackHeart gear confidently into the woods or onto the range and the Roost Turkey Sling is no exception and an incredible value for the money.

Final Thoughts

Spring turkey season is a brief window to fill your tag with one of the smartest game species you could lace up your boots to pursue in the wild.

Where other seasons can be months long to fill your tag, the timer seems to quickly count down and if you’re not ready when the opportunity is there, it’s a long 12 months to think about your mistakes and “what-ifs?”

Take a look at the Roost Turkey Sling from BlackHeart if you need a new sling, or need to step up from the one you have to get the most out of your spring turkey season.
